Description Raman spectroscopy can identify many active ingredients and give further information about excipients, as well as the relative concentrations of active ingredients to excipients. A monochromatic light beam is directed on the sample. The majority of the light beam is transmitted through the material, and a minor part is released. By analyzing the scattered light and the peak detection at certain wavelengths (distinct from the wavelength of the incident beam), the chemical composition of the sample can be deduced. Usually the identification of the different compounds is done by comparison of the produced spectrum with a database of reference spectra.
