Glossary
Counterfeit drugs differ from most other forms of counterfeiting in that:
-Drug counterfeiting directly endangers the life of the consumer.
-The consumer of fake medicines is never complicit, always a victim.
-The complexity and great diversity of medicinal products makes the detection of counterfeits particularly difficult.
For all these reasons, the Institute is persuaded that stakeholder training and the widespread circulation of reliable and precise information with regard to health products are the main levers in the fight against fake drugs trafficking.
The Institute organizes many trainings sessions:
-Initiation and awareness-raising courses
-Specialized training in targeted themes.
-Regional courses in collaboration with its partners.
Its programs and training modules cover the following themes:
-The role of health agencies.
-Notions related to intellectual property
Open to nationals from all countries, the Institute’s training sessions address in priority the following people:
-Health care professionals (pharmacists, doctors, nursing staff …)
The training sessions are delivered by the best national specialists or by experts from the major agencies involved in the fight against counterfeit drugs (Interpol, World Customs Organization, European health agency, Council of Europe…), including:
-Heads of the customs services in charge of ports and airports
-Head of the Order of Pharmacists
-Directors of judiciary police
The Institute also regularly contributes to awareness-raising and training actions organized by other agencies in France or abroad.
