Technology Coded printing technology: Cryptoglyph by AlpVision Protection strategy Product authentication Type Covert or coded feature System Automatic authentication Software authentication Medium Primary packaging Secondary packaging Authentication/Identificaton Authentication Traceability No Cost Price on request Required equipment Office Scanner + computer + the application or iPhone 4 (or later) + the application Vertification level Authorities; Some intermediates of the supply chain N.B. Description An encrypted pattern of micro dots is directly printed on the packaging substrate (cartons, leaflets, labels, and blister packs) using regular visible ink or varnish (in that case it is a pattern of micro-holes). The dots are invisible (hidden in the imperfections of the printed material), the pattern cannot be copied and/or detected without a 128-bit encryption key. Verification of the product’s authenticity: scan of the packaging with a regular office scanner or photography with a smartphone (iPhone 4 or later, other mobile operating systems available upon request). AlpVision’s product-specific application downloaded on a PC or the iPhone will decipher the pattern and verify the authenticity of the product and classify the product as “genuine” or “fake”. Strengths The micro dots are printed with the standard printing processes (offset, rotogravure, flexo, laser, inkjet, etc..): no additional production cost, Can be printed on different types of substrate (carton, paper, aluminum foil); No training needed; Impossible to copy; Robust : can be read even with a high level of packaging damage; Possibility to obtain statistical data thanks to the database Krysos (location of the authentication, number of authentication, person performing the authentication, etc..); Instant authentication; Cost effective; Limitations Do not guarantee product integrity or tamper evidence used by itself: pack can be refilled and reused; Application for authentication only available for rights holders and authorities, not user verifiable for now; Links:http://www.alpvision.com/cryptoglyph-covert-marking.html
