Gabon: 50 sellers of counterfeit medicines arrested
On Friday, May 23, prosecutors in Libreville process arrested fifty sellers of counterfeit pharmaceuticals.
This operation to stop the proliferation of âpharmacies on the floorâ and street sellers was conducted in the markets of Mont-Bouet, Nkembo and PK8.
Among the discovered products, though banned from sale products, many pharmaceutical products such as âNuravitâ and âBlack Diamondâ are still illegally sold in Libreville.
Other markets will be inspected soon.

Gabon: Destruction of Fake Medicines Seized by Police and Customs
Several tons of counterfeit pharmaceuticals totalling an estimated market value of several million CFA francs were incinerated on December 24, 2013 at Okolassi, a town about 30 kilometers from Libreville.
As in many African countries, drugs are sold in the streets and in the markets. This is the case in the Gabonese capital markets Mont Bouët in Nkembo and Nzeng-Ayong or Oloumi. People are looking for cheap and caring medicines. No matter the origin.
These fakes come from seizures during police raids in these âpharmacies on the groundâ and in some private pharmacies in the Gabonese capital, but also various checks carried out by the Gabonese Customs at ports and airports of the country.
The Ministry of Health hopes to send a strong sign to counterfeit drugs traffickers and sellers. The Gabon has now a Department of Medicine and Pharmacy (DMP) whose role is to fight against counterfeit pharmaceuticals trafficking, ensuring compliance with the regulations.
Internationally, Gabon had ratified several legal texts such as the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, which aims to strengthen and promote international cooperation in the fight against the sale of counterfeit pharmaceuticals.
