In 2017 the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) introduced a barcoding system based on Matrix GS1 data codes which display a medicine’s Global Trade Identification Number (GTIN), expiry date and batch number. The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has announced that, for the first time ever, a new monitoring system will be able to track medicines manufactured in the United Arab Emirates and abroad “from the production line until they reach the patient”. The authority has met with pharmaceutical manufacturing and distribution companies to discuss setting up the new system.
