Former VN Pharma CEO was sentenced to 17 years in prison for smuggling fake cancer medicines into Vietnam. Eleven other defendants who were involved in the racket received sentences from three to 20 years in prison. The court heard that VN Pharma had been illegally importing H-Capita cancer medicine since 2013. The firm’s customs declarations said the medicine was manufactured by Helix Pharmaceuticals Inc. in Canada, but police later found out that the company did not exist. Documents certifying the medicine’s quality, including those issued in Canada, and the signature and stamp of the Vietnamese Embassy in Canada turned out to be fake.
