Cameroon : Fake anti-hypertensive medicine discovered in Cameroon -

Several patients in Cameroon have suffered from hypoglycemia after taking a medicine presented as hydrochlorothiazide 50mg. Screening revealed that the product contained glibenclamide and not hydrochlorothiazide which is the active ingredient stated on the packaging. Genuine hydrochlorothiazide is used as an anti-hypertensive or diuretic medicine and glibenclamide is a diabetic treatment. Upon verification with the manufacturer which is stated on the packaging, it was confirmed that the product was falsified.
