After the discovery of a fake medicines trafficking network which was operating in the Desaguadero border area and distributing illegal products to La Paz and throughout Bolivia, the government has announced that a new law on medicines will be implemented. “President Evo Morales has asked for a standard law to be drawn up, in coordination with international organizations which regulate pharmaceuticals, pharmacists and other mandatory bodies”, said the legislator. A new outcome of this law will be the introduction of provisions to avoid and sanction medicine falsification. Law 1737, in force since 1996, is no longer appropriate for medicine monitoring and quality control.
