Twitter has refused to provide access to some of its data to a University of California San Diego researcher. The researcher, who is studying illicit opioid sales on social media, is shocked by Twitter’s refusal to cooperate given the current high rate of opioid overdoses in the United States. The platform’s refusal appears to be due to a breach in user conditions as it is illegal to use Twitter data to monitor users.
