The lack of medicines in Venezuela has created a rise in illicit medicine trade, especially in Maracaibo city center. Hundreds of medicines are sold on the black market alongside clothes, shoes and food stalls. The products are not regulated or stored in adequate hygiene conditions. The traders sell expired medicines, which are unlicensed and are imported without any regulatory controls, repackaged medicines which are incorrectly labeled as regards their identification and origin, and fake and falsified products.
