In response to an increase in online medicines trafficking in India, the Maharashtra Food and Drugs Administration has launched a massive crackdown to eliminate these networks. To date, seven online suppliers have received official warnings, nine online trading licenses cancelled and four additional online suppliers have been requested to provide proof of license. A website supplier is being prosecuted and five other cases have been referred to the FDA of other Indian states. In spite of these actions, the Maharashtra authorities are still struggling to cull trafficking as the majority of the websites are registered in other parts of the country where fewer actions are taken against pharmaceutical trafficking.
