In the Dominican Republic, cooperation between authorities, IRACM and the pharmaceutical industry is improving the fight against fake medicines.
According to the Association of representatives, agents and pharmaceutical producers (ARAPF), the fight against fake medicines could improve through increased cooperation between pharmaceutical industry authorities and representatives. Last year, 14 raids resulted in the seizure of almost €1,5m worth of illicit medicines and 14 arrests. This collaboration also led to dismantling three clandestine laboratories. The association points out the fact that there is still much work to do: this was demonstrated early April at an operational workshop on illicit medicines trafficking in partnership with the Institute of Research Against Counterfeit Medicines (IRACM) and the Directorate of Customs (DGA). Other awareness and training workshops will be implemented in the country with the help of IRACM.
