Counterfeit medicines are sharply rising in 2015 in Belgium

The trend worries Belgian health professionals. In 2013, 1,989 packages of counterfeit drugs had been intercepted in Belgium. This figure increased to 3,781 packages in 2014 and 2015 augurs to be a record year since counterfeits are already up to 60% for the first half.
These counterfeits are mainly bought on the internet. The medicines range which rather concerned treatment against erectile dysfunction and diet pills is now extending to painkillers and antibiotics.
IRACM recalls that the European Commission has set up a common logo for online pharmacies guaranteeing the authenticity of the website. This logo, stamped on the home page, allows with a simple click to check out the official national list of online pharmacies and retailers and check if the ePharmacy is listed. The continuation of the purchase can then be made safely. This process has been implemented active since 1 July 2015.
