In India, market is flooded with fake drugs in Jharkhand region

Tests conducted the State laboratory in Ranchi showed that a large proportion of counterfeit medicines was on sale in 24 districts in Jharkhand region, with prevalence in East Singhbhum.
The analyzed counterfeit drugs were either contaminated or contain the wrong active ingredient, or the right active ingredient but with wrong dosage. The tested drugs, including paracetamol tablets, cough suppressants and painkillers, came from twenty different brands.
According to authorities, the counterfeit market would have suddenly increased this year and at least 10% of the drugs tested in the lab of Ranchi would be counterfeit drugs. In recent months, 8 to 10 companies received warning letters for marketing substandard drugs.
