
2014 was a record year in terms of seizures to the French customs. Among the 8.8 million counterfeit items intercepted (an 15.4% increase), there were 2,580,793 counterfeit drugs, twice more than in 2013 (1,354 million).
In February 2014, 2.4 million counterfeit drugs were intercepted during a record seizure in Le Havre (Northwest of France). These fake drugs were hidden in two containers coming from China.
In 2013, counterfeit drugs accounted for 17.8% of all seizures of the year; while in 2014, 29.3% of the year’s seizures are fake medicines, or 1/3 of articles.
