On February 24, 2015, the NGO RAES and Sonatel (national telecommunications company) have launched in Passy, Senegal, the JokkoSanté project, a virtual community pharmacy optimizing consumption and storage of drugs. The objective is actually to set up a non-profit community exchange programme to the benefit of health of the Senegalese people.
Under the full control of healthcare professionals, this connected medicine chest works via the Internet and the mobile network: the Senegalese previously registered on this website, will be able to purchase and deposit drugs.
The members have a personal account linked to their mobile phone number. Depending on the value of the drugs deposited or removed, the account is credited or debited.
Lastly, the drugs will be offered to the disadvantaged people through donations by partners (companies or organizations). Medicines will be bought in drug stores thanks to financial contributions.
The pilot phase will last six months.
