Turkey: Istanbul Police dismantled a criminal network making trafficking of counterfeit anticancer drugs -

After two years of investigation and through the testimony of a nurse who discovered a fake drug against cancer, the Police were able to arrest people involved in the sale of counterfeit or expired anti-cancer treatments.

Investigations on this case began in December 2013. They had allowed the launch of the first Police operation in nine cities of the country. The first raid resulted in 70 people arrested.

This second operation targeted the same criminal gang and members still active. The Police arrested 24 people and confiscated fake drugs, falsified prescriptions and forged documents.

Suspects are accused of illegally obtaining cancer patients’ health reports and billed fake cancer drugs for social security payments worth up to 10 million of Turkish pounds in total (or more than €3.5 million).
