Integrity of the US Drug Supply Chain
The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) edited a white paper on October 9, 2013: ” Wholesale Drug Distribution: Protecting the Integrity of the Nation’s Prescription Drug Supply “. This position paper points to the roles of unscrupulous wholesalers in distributing counterfeit drugs and unapproved foreign-sourced drugs that have endangered patients across the United States of America.
Corrupt wholesalers and Medicaid fraud as well as the unapproved foreign-sourced distribution must be fought. We can remember the very recent cases of illicit drugs such as Avastin® and Altuzan® (both cancer medicines) occurred in 2012. The two medications are originally manufactured by the Swiss drug maker Roche.
‘The paper notes that the bad actors behind such schemes must be rooted out or “patients will continue to be at risk’, NABP said.
