ZAMBIA : Call for registration of Veterinary Medicine

The Pharmaceutical Act (No. 14) of 2004 requires that all medicines intended to be marketed in Zambia be registered and granted a product licence issued by the Pharmaceutical Regulatory Authority. This is to ensure that the medicines being made available to the Zambian community meet acceptable standards of quality, safety and efficacy. We have noted that most of the veterinary medicines on the Zambian market are placed on the market without a product licence, a situation which may result in the proliferation of spurious, substandard and counterfeit veterinary medicinal products on the Zambian Market.

In order to normalize the situation the Authority, in consultation with key stakeholders, has developed an abridged application procedure which will enable applicants to submit to the Authority minimal but critical product information to facilitate registration and possible issuance of product licence for veterinary medicinal products.
